The next Calvary sponsored Holy Hike is planned for Nov. 18th. This is the Saturday before Thanksgiving, the perfect time for a little extra exercise!!! And also of course, a good opportunity to give thanks for and in the midst of God’s creation.
We will meet at Lake Needwood and hike around the lake. All are welcome to attend and join the hike. A “Holy Hike” is a group outing with a hike interspersed with a Lutheran Order of Worship. We will stop several times throughout the hike for liturgy, readings, psalms and prayers.
This hike will be on the trail around Lake Needwood located in Rockville. This trail is not paved, but it is a relatively smooth, dirt trail, with only minor elevation changes as it winds around the lake. The loop is 2.5 miles in length. As in past hikes, all ages are welcome. Children, whether walking or in a carrier are certainly a wonderful addition to the outing!
A park map can be found by following this link. I think the easiest option is to meet at the Boathouse, which is near the main parking area at the bottom right of the lake. This is marked with a #4. The boathouse will not be open at this time of year, and I also read that water is turned off at most parks on November 1st, so there may not be amenities such as restrooms or water fountains. Come prepared!
Finally, we will plan to hike regardless of weather conditions. It is too difficult to get word of cancellation to all attendees at the last minute, so we will plan to hike in all conditions. Please dress for the weather.
All are welcome on this hike, so spread the word! We would love to have friends or neighbors join. We will plan to meet at the Boathouse at 9:45 and begin hiking at 10:00am sharp!
